WRITING
LHPUSD students write regularly in the classroom. Teachers and students use the Lucy Caulkins model to pinpoint areas of strength and weakness as they focus on improved writing. The Writing Rubric is used to score writing samples twice/yearly.
Purpose of Assessment: To understand what is working well and what needs to be improved in writing. The Lucy Calkins model gives teachers a focus for their writing instruction. It provides a common language for talking about and celebrating writing. This model breaks down writing performance into manageable groups of teachable and assessable skills.
Who takes the test: Students in Grades K-6
When: Quarterly (Tests are jury-scored in the Fall and Spring.)
