Dear 2nd through 11th Grade Families,

I am reaching to inform you about the upcoming NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in Reading and Mathematics that your child will be taking soon.

What is the NWEA MAP Assessment?

The NWEA MAP assessment is a computer-adaptive test that measures your child's academic growth throughout the school year and across multiple years. Unlike traditional tests, MAP adjusts in difficulty according to each student's performance, providing a more personalized assessment of their abilities. The results help us identify strengths and areas for improvement in both reading and mathematics, allowing us to tailor instruction to meet each student's needs.

Who takes the NWEA MAP Assessments?

LHPUSD students in 2nd through 11th grade take the reading and math assessments. TK-1st grade students do not participate in the NWEA.

The assessment will be administered in the fall 2024 and the spring 2025 in both subject areas.

How Do We Use the Data?

The data from the NWEA MAP assessments is a valuable tool for our educators. It helps us:

  • Monitor academic growth over time.

  • Set learning goals for students.

  • Inform instruction and interventions to address specific needs.

  • Support differentiated instruction in the classroom.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of our curriculum and teaching strategies.

How Can Families Support Their Students?

Your support is crucial in helping your child perform their best. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Encourage Rest: Ensure your child gets a good night's sleep before each testing day.

  • Healthy Breakfast:: A nutritious breakfast can help your child stay focused and energized.

  • Positive Attitude: Encourage your child to approach the test with confidence and a calm mindset.

  • Practice at Home: Engage in reading activities or math games to help your child feel more prepared.

  • Stay Informed: Talk with your child about the assessments and reassure them that it’s just one of many tools used to help them learn and share what they know about reading and writing.

Assessment Windows:

Reading Assessment: Monday, August 26-Friday, August 30

Math Assessment: Tuesday, September 3-Friday, September 6

We appreciate your continued partnership in your child's education. If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming NWEA MAP assessments, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your support!
