Pescadero Middle School

Pescadero Middle School is a unique public school located in a rural area on the beautiful South Coast of San Mateo County. Students are drawn from the communities of La Honda, Pescadero, Loma Mar, and San Gregorio.  Our location, although remote, is a diverse environmental classroom spanning approximately 60 square miles. Within walking distance is the Pescadero Marsh and state beach. Five miles to the east is a Redwood biosphere which includes several state parks and private land. Pescadero Creek, running through all these areas, is the major stream that drains a large watershed. Our Watershed Project is a great example of community members and staff coming together to bring Pescadero’s backyard into the classroom. Our dedicated teachers enhance this experience by utilizing hands-on methods to teach science content as well as language development, and as a result, a thriving school garden has developed. Additionally, an extended day after school program is provided with the goal of closing the achievement gap in both literacy and math. Teachers work with small groups of students targeting skills to raise academic achievement levels.  Pescadero Middle School is supported as well by Pescadero Parent Teacher Association, the Pescadero Education Foundation, and Puente de la Costa Sur.

Pescadero Middle School Expected Learning Results:

  • Students will be resourceful thinkers.
  • Students will be self-directed, lifelong learners.
  • Students will be respectful and responsible individuals.
